Taylor and Ryan | Colorado Mountain Engagement | Adventure Sessions

There’s something incredibly magic about wintertime and Colorado being covered in snow.

Taylor and Ryan decided to head “up the hill” to Dillon, Colorado for their winter engagement session.  We met at Dillon Dam Brewery for some grub before our session.  If you’re up in Summit County and want a good beverage and Mac n’ Cheese, seriously, stop on in.  It’s a great place to warm up/wind down.  Once our bellies were full and toes were halfway warm, we headed to Lake Dillon Marina.

During the winter, Lake Dillon freezes over, as do most lakes in Colorado.  However, the ice is so thick in this area that it’s been known for cars to drive over the ice.  We certainly don’t weigh as much as a car, so the four of us headed directly out onto the lake.

My amazing colleague and friend, Jenae Lopez of Jenae Lopez Photography, came on our trek with us to hang out and photograph.  I absolutely LOVE when we have two photographers, which is why all of my wedding collections include two.

All of the fresh powder that greeted us makes it a little hard to see, but there’s four feet of solid ice under our toes.  At least it was a sunny afternoon to help keep us warm!

Lake Dillon has an incredible view – sweeping mountains hanging over the frozen lake.

One of my very favorite looks is the “sexy beast face”.  As a Colorado engagement photographer, you’ll repeatedly hear me saying this phrase.  Some people are naturals at making the “sexy face”, some are not.  I’ve photographed Taylor and Ryan before, so we joked around about trying to achieve this look and how unnatural it can feel.  Well, I think she nailed it.

After freezing our butts off on Lake Dillon, we headed over to the small town of Jefferson via. the pass.  We were greeted with freezing cold winds and quickly dropping temperatures, but made our way down to an incredible field just as the sun was beginning to set.

The mountains in Jefferson face to the East, which makes for amazing light fall off and glowing pink peaks.  As a Colorado engagement photographer, these are the things I aim to plan for and get incredibly excited about when the stars align perfectly.  The lighting and sunset were amazing.

Thank you, Taylor and Ryan, for trekking all over Colorado with us and listening to my crazy weird photography talk all day.  I’m so incredibly excited and honored to photograph your July wedding at the Grant Humphries Mansion.
