Alexis and Corey | Mayflower Gulch Engagement

Alexis and Corey wanted to take their puppers on a winter hike for their Summit County engagement photographs – and we settled on Mayflower Gulch for sunrise.

Mayflower Gulch is roughly 3.2 miles Round Trip (to the cabins) with 550ft. of elevation gain total. It’s a pretty popular trail – meaning that it’s very likely to be packed down and spikes are sufficient on most days. It also means that sunrise tends to be MUCH less crowded – which is always my recommendation for the more popular locaions.

We met down in the winter lot and made our way up to the Cabins to start just before the sun broke the horizon. In the winter months, the sun doesn’t quite rise enough to bathe the mountains in alpenglow, however, we were granted with some amazing clouds and color this morning.

After we spent a little bit of time at the cabins, their puppers started to get “Ice Paws” from the fresh snow that grazed the pathway. We decided to walk around a bit and see if walking would help lift her spirits.

Once we got back down to the trailhead, the sun had arisen and the temps (finally) rose to levels where everyone was comfortable. Winter mornings certainly bring on the chill!

Congratulations again, Alexis and Corey!

Cheers –
