Sunrise is such a magical time. Believe it or not, I’m actually not a morning person… AT ALL. But if I know that I’m going to be photographing awesome people in an amazing place – count me in for the 2am wake up call.

Shannon and Marshall met me up at Twin Lakes – an amazing place just outside of Leadville, Colorado – for their sunrise engagement. Every time I’ve been to these amazing lakes, the sky has put on an amazing show. As the sun tips up over the horizon, you get panoramic skies with mountains in the background. Most of the surrounding peaks in the area are at 13,000 feet or above – including Colorado’s largest peak Mt. Elbert towering at 14,439′.

As the skies started to turn a multitude of cotton candy shades, we ventured out beyond the White Star Campground – an area of Twin Lakes that has the best views in my opinion. We had grand weather for pre-sunrise, around 50* with little to no winds.

Joining us for their engagement photographs was Moose – the super adorable and super well behaved pup. I’m a HUGE dog lover, and I absolutely love when couples want to include their fur kiddos in their photographs.

As the morning light came upon us, we ventured around the lake a little and finished up taking portraits around 7:30 in the morning. Just in time to have my 4th, or maybe it was my 5th, coffee 😂.

Thank you, Shannon and Marshall, for getting up at the literal crack of dawn to adventure around Twin Lakes. I can’t wait to celebrate next July with you guys for your Strawberry Creek Ranch wedding!!

Cheers –
