Dereck and Emily | Maroon Bells Proposal

When you think of Colorado, many times the image of the iconic Maroon Bells is what comes to mind. Tucked in the Elk Mountains just outside Aspen, the Maroon Bells wilderness area is incredibly easy to access and boasts those postcard worthy views.

Dereck had let me know that he and Emily were going to be in Aspen for a long weekend, and he had decided to propose. Knowing it was a weekend and that we opted for later in the day, I suggested the Amphitheater as the perfect place to ask Emily to marry him. The Amphitheater can be rented out for weddings/elopements on weekdays, but is unavailable to rent on the weekends and becomes first come, first serve. Most tourists who come to visit the area go directly to the first lake viewpoint and stop, making the amphitheater a much more private location.

After Emily said YES, we ventured around the area for photos and some pretty cool animal sightings. I’ve grown up here in Colorado, and seeing a Bear typically happens in town where they’re digging through trash in my experience. We saw TWO separate bears in the wilderness on this day – one way high up on the hill just having the time of their life rolling around in the grass, and another across the lake just sitting there without any care that so many humans were congregated staring at it. One thing I’ve learned is that if you see a group of people standing around all looking in one direction, stop to look because there’s likely some sort of animal hanging out (when we were in Iceland, this is how we saw whales on the shore!).

Congratulations again, Dereck and Emily! I hope that you enjoyed the Aspen area on your mini-vacation <3

Cheers-
