Matthew and Cindy | Crested Butte Wildflower Proposal

Matthew reached out, letting me know him and Cindy were headed out to Crested Butte and wanted to be sure and see all the wildflowers that the Wildflower Capital of Colorado is known for. We talked a little back and forth about what time of year, and what flowers in particular they were hoping to see. Once he let me know that Cindy was looking to see the fields of lavender colored Lupines, we settled on Late June. It’s so hard to predict exactly when flowers will be blooming in the Crested Butte valley, but this past year with the lack of snow and high temperatures the valley was in full bloom by mid-June.
I had just been in Crested Butte a week prior and discovered a new (to me) amazing location and sent over some photos to Matthew – we agreed that it would be the perfect place at Sunrise for him to propose. You can see Mt. Crested Butte, Gothic Mountain, and the entire Northern Crested Butte Valley, all without hiking a ton. Needless to say, it’s quickly become a favorite place to head with couples (or for a Solo Run).
Just before Sunrise, I got out to our pre-determined location with some time to spare and await their arrival. There was a van parked in the lot where some people had obviously car camped in overnight, and I thought it would make for the perfect cover to hide behind (sorry if someone was in the van still, I’m sure I looked like a creeper 😂).
Matthew and Cindy got to the lupine field, and headed out on the hiking trail that provided wonderful views of Mt. Crested Butte, where Cindy said yes to Matthew’s proposal. I sprung out from behind the van just as he got down on one knee. A little advice I always give to proposing partners, stay on one knee longer than you think you need to – it allows for multiple angles/a little more time for your photographer to get those once in a lifetime shot. Matthew did an AMAZING job, and Cindy had one of the best reactions I’ve been a part of (the video I got with my phone is cute as pie).
After the proposal, we wandered around the upper fields taking some photos in all the amazing directions this location has to offer. The night before, Cindy had bought a bouquet of flowers from a local grower at the farmer’s market, highly recommend doing so if possible before taking photos.
Congratulations again, Matthew and Cindy! I hope that you enjoyed your time here in Crested Butte and were able to see all the fields full of flowers blooming across the valley.
Cheers-
